Sports Briefs: Taddie's blast has Novato Knicks chasing title
Joey Taddie blasted a three-run homer as the Novato Knicks powered past TKB Baseball, 11-10, to open the Norm Thompson Pacific Baseball League playoffs Saturday. The Knicks advanced in the winner’s bracket to face the host Fairfield Indians at 6 p.m. Saturday. The score was unavailable at press time.
Taddie’s teammate at College of Marin, Lucas Schaefer, was 2-for-3. San Marin High grad David Skaggs earned the win with four innings of work in which he held TKB to three earned runs. The playoffs continue Sunday in Fairfield.
• Marin Catholic’s Jayden Lee, a rising senior, announced his commitment to continue his career at the University of San Diego via social media on Saturday.
Lee, an outfielder, hit .313 last season with 26 hits and 25 RBIs to help the Wildcats win the MCAL regular-season title with a 14-2 record. Defensively, he had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
The U.S. women’s eight, with Marin Rowing Association regular Joely Cherniss, came up just short of the medal stand in what was an incredibly tight finish, with the top four boats separated by only a couple of feet at the 2023 World Rowing Under 19 Championships at the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium, site of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic rowing events. Great Britain won gold in a 6:26.00, with Germany taking silver in a 6:26.09. Romania claimed the bronze in a 6:26.14, with the U.S. crossing in a 6:26.24.
After just missing the medal race, the U.S. men’s quadruple sculls crew with Marin County’s Edward Achtner finished sixth in the B final for a 12th-place finish overall.
Sleepy Hollow Aquatics attacker Gabriella Reichley was tabbed for duty with the USA Water Polo 2007 Futures squad, which was competing in Budapest on Saturday.
The Marin Bocce Federation will host the annual Dolly Nave Tournament on Saturday, August 12. Registration for four-player teams is availabe in the office or via email at [email protected]. The cost is $385 per team.
All proceeds are donated to San Rafael High School Alumni Association to purchase new helmets for high school football players.
